Buckhannon-Upshur Jazz Band
Named
All-State Jazz Ensemble
Buckhannon-Upshur High School’s Jazz Band has been selected as the state Jazz Honor
Band and performed at the West Virginia Music Educator’s Conference. The three-day event, starting Thursday, takes place
this year at Morgantown. Honor groups, including bands, choirs and show choirs, will present their music throughout the conference
in the Creative Arts Center on the Evansdale campus of WVU.
“We were selected from the 15 or so bands
that were adjudicated at three regional festivals on Saturday," said director Danny Williams. "This is quite a privilege.
Since 1969, when Buckhannon sent both the high school and junior high concert bands, we have been chosen 16 times, with junior
high and high school groups, plus the high school choir going two years in a row. I think this is the first time our jazz
band has been selected.”
